Unit 9 Final Project

                                                                  Unit 9 Project
I.                   The reason it is important for health and wellness professionals to develop

psychologically, spiritually, and physically is to be able to incorporate into their own

lives what they tell their patients. This gives the health and wellness professional the

inner aspects of health and life (Dacher, 2006). By experiencing these practices in

their own life they are able to know firsthand and share it with their patients. As the

saying goes “practice what you preach.”

I need to develop my psychological and physical areas. For my psychological I need

to work on meditation and training my mind. I need to focus on calming my mind and

controlling my thoughts.  For my physical I need to start working out at least 3 times

a week. I am going to start focusing on these as soon as I get finished with this term. I

will be graduating and have more time.

II.                I have assessed my health in each domain by looking at how much I have grown and

what I can continue to do to achieve integral health. My spiritual domain is the

strongest out of the three. I still have a ways to go on my psychological and physical

aspects. I score my wellness spiritually an 8, my psychological a 6, and my physical a

5.

III.             My goal for the physical aspect is to start working out at least 3 times a week. My

goal for the psychological aspect is to start meditating 3 times a week and when I

need to distress. I also am going to do relaxation exercises regularly. The last goal for

my psychological area is to work on calming my mind and controlling my thoughts.
My goal for the spiritual aspect is to continue praying all the time.

IV.             The strategies that I plan on implementing for my physical area are:  I want to start

riding a stationary bike and weight lifting. I have a room in my house already set up

for working out. I am going to start working out as soon as I finish this term. The

strategies that I will use for my psychological aspect are the subtle mind exercise and

mind training exercises such as meditation and relaxation. The spiritual strategies that

I already have implemented in my life are prayer and meditation.

V.                Within the next six months I will assess my progress by using the integral assessment

in the Dacher book. I also plan on reading the book over again as needed to assess

how I am doing. I will look at this plan to see if I am keeping up with these goals. The

strategies that I will continue to do to maintain my practices are to do meditation

regularly, relaxation exercises, work on my subtle mind exercise, work out regularly,

assess my progress regularly, and continue to flourish.

  1. Ashley,

Your assessment was similar to mine. I plan to begin my exercise plan this week. I want to go into the New Year already past the first two weeks of commitment. Like you I am stronger in spiritually because of my faith and prayer life. In doing research for this assignment, I found a meditation center that teaches some of the mindfulness practices we have learn in this course. I have signed up to attend a couple of classes so I can enhance what I have learned in this term. Continue success in your endeavors towards human flourishing.

    Best of Luck,
    Gilda

  2. Ashley,
Great job on your assessment. I think you have set up reasonable and attainable goals for yourself and I think it is great that you are going to refer back to the book when needed and also reassess what you are doing in six months. I also think it is great that you are going to make sure you continue to meditate because this will help keep you mind healthy and your stress level down.

  3. Hey Ashley,
Great post and good job in setting goals that are achievable and realistic. I know when I first started my journey to good health I thought it would be a temporary thing. The journey started 40 years ago when I was 10 years old and it hasn’t stopped yet. I know that throughout life I have learned so much about the body and the things that we need to take responsibility for to be able to flourish. To get the message across to others is what I have found to be the most challenging. Since starting at Kaplan I’ve been able to get better educated giving me the opportunities that I needed to flourish both personally and with my business. My clients can sometimes be very hard to handle as they run big companies and they’re not used to having someone telling them what to do. Thank God that I have the knowledge and know what I am talking about that they now trust what I tell them making my job easier now than before. Building relationships sometimes take time, knowledge, trust, and purpose before someone lets you in their lives.
