1. Review your unit 3 personal assessment of your psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being. Reflect on these areas . How did you score yourself on a scale from 1 to 10 in unit 3? How do you score yourself now? Has the score changed? Why or why not?
The scores in unit 3 were spiritual was a 7, my psychological was a 7 and my physical was a 3. In unit 9 my scores are spiritual is an 8, psychological is a 6, and my physical is a 5. The scores have changed a little bit but not much. I find it strange that my psychological aspect has gone down 1. My physical has gone up 2 and I haven't starting working out yet. That is strange. Maybe at the time I was feeling stronger mentally when I did my scores for unit 9.
2. Review the goals and activities you set for yourself in each area. Have you made progress toward the goals? Explain.
I have made progress in doing the mind exercises but I haven't done anything else different.
3. Have you implemented the activities you chose for your well-being in each of the three areas? Explain.
I only have implemented the relaxation exercises and meditation practices.
4. Summarize your personal experience throughout this course. Have you developed improved well-being? What has been rewarding? What has been difficult? How will this experience improve your ability to assist others?
I have enjoyed this course so much! I have learned a lot about health and wellness and all that is involved. I have started improving my well-being. I haven't started working on my physical at all but now that I am done with my degree I will have more time to focus on myself. I have learned some new aspects to healing that will help me with my fibromyalgia. The only thing I found difficult were some of the relaxation exercises and meditation practices. I need to work more on calming my mind. This experience will help me to show others a different approach to healing. That in order to heal your body you have to focus on the mind, body, and spirit as a whole.
This post is full of honesty and I think that is great. I think it is really hard to rate yourself and then put in on display for everyone to see. When I am rating myself like that, I tend to rate myself higher than what I really am. Since this is an online course, nobody can actually see you and try to measure these objectives. I really wish you the best in dealing with your fibromyalgia. When you have a chronic pain condition, it can really bring your psychological, spiritual, and physical health down. I was recently diagnosed with degenerative arthritis and degenerative disc disease in my back after having six months of worsening pain in my hip and back. I haven't found any medication that works well yet and I refuse to take narcotics. I am going to explore some alternative medicine practices to help with my discomfort. I am going to do exactly what you suggested: focus on the mind, body, and spirit as a whole for healing.

Congratulations on being done with your degree! I have also struggled with the relaxation exercises. I found the visualization exercise to be the most helpful for me because I am a very visual person. I also have found that some relaxing music can help wind down my mind enough to be able to reflect. I hope your fibromyalgia gets better. The ratings might differ because we are just learning how to rate our wellness. It's not easy to assign a number to our wellness. Keep mental training, as it might not make the pain go away but you might be able to cope with the pain better. A positive mind does wonders for the body!

Ashley - You did it!! How wonderful to have accomplished this great goal of achieving your degree. It is hard work, but like you said it will free you up to focus on your health now. I encourage you to remember how worth it you are to incorporate that aspect of mind, body, and spirit. They are all of one commitment to achieving integral health and human flourishing. Your dedication to your degree proves you have the strength and determination to make this rewarding practice a part of your life. All the best to you in your new found degree recognition. I hope it is the start of wonderful things for you. Time to reap the rewards of your hard work, but never forget to continue learning! Your integral health depends on it :) Katie
ReplyDeleteAshley, It doesn't really surprise me that your scores changed. Mine didn't change at all but I am doing stronger in the physical exercise area, just not enough to improve the number. I think that this is an esoteric process and could change every time that you look at it and assess again. Wherever you are mentally is going to affect the assessment process since you are grading yourself.
